Arts and Crafts in Winter

Thinking of a short break in Skye and Lochalsh during the Winter months? You will be rewarded with a clarity of vision not found in Summer, lower and more interesting angles of sunlight, and frequently all four seasons on the same morning...

The area's cottages and hotels are offering winter rates, the Highland's links are all functioning, the roads are all open, even with snow on the hills, and the arts and crafts studios are open for viewing and buying that unique gift...

Many of the larger studios, galleries and visitor attractions keep the same hours during Winter and Summer, but some smaller studios do not. Many of the area's artists work outside during the winter, taking advantage of the unique light and weather systems. If you wish to speak directly to an artist about their work, or to purchase a specific piece, it is a good idea to phone before you set off, to avoid disappointment!

The following Studios have different opening arrangements during the Winter months:

• Mark & Mary Langdale -- Winter Mon-Sat 11am – 1pm, Sun – phone to check
• Orbost Gallery -- Please telephone for an appointment
• Phil Gorton Studio -- Usually open, but please phone for a specific appointment
• Shilasdair, The Skye Yarn Company -- By appointment
• The Croft Studio -- 10am - 4pm November to Easter

• Uig Pottery -- Mon-Sat, 9am-5pm

• After The Rain -- Winter: Mon - Sat, 10am - 4pm
• Alan Campbell at Woodrising Gallery -- Christmas - Easter, Hours vary
• JAC Woodworks -- Normally 9am-12pm and 2pm-6pm all year
• Over The Rainbow -- winter: 9am - 6pm 6 days
• Raasay House / Outdoor Centre -- Closed in Winter
• Skye Batiks -- Open daily all year except Sundays in winter!
• Skyeline Ceramics -- October - Easter - Varied opening.
